About
oh time thy pyramids is something that a Librarian once found in a book on a shelf in Borges’ Library of Babel. I owe a lot to Borges, and this story in particular.
Who am I? My name is Leland Paul Kusmer, and…
I’m a linguist: Greatly concerned with language endangerment, headed for fieldwork. Mostly interested in (morpho)syntax, cognitive stuff; linguistics is my chosen route to understanding the mind.
I’m a conlanger: Primary conlang is a naturalistic artlang with a bit of semantic engelanging built in called tukwäi; participated in the last two relays. Helped design the current conlanger’s flag.
I’m a musician: Viola, mostly in the context of the string quartet; handbells, mostly as a director but occasionally in small ensembles; fiddle, bodhran, and uilleann pipes, on occasion; voice, whenever possible, mostly in the context of Sacred Harp. Also a composer.
I’m a folkdancer: Mostly contra, some English and Scottish. Want to learn rapper. Occasionally call contra.
I’m a baker: Well, or at least sometimes I pretend to be.
